You might see India as a land of various stereotypes, but, if you change your perspective, it won’t take more than a second to become the most unique, the most beautiful and perhaps the most mesmerizing country you could ever put your eyes on. A country bigger than all but six countries in the world, a country of unimaginable diversity, a country with a powerhouse of a population, just how big is India?
This is How Big Are They and what better time could it be than the Indian Independence Day to find out just big India is!
While you may look at The United States of America or Russia, or even China, and conclude that India is actually not very big – at least in terms of actual size but nothing could be farther from reality than this.
For starters, India is big enough to fit more land than entire Mexico and South Africa combined. If that’s not big enough, it is big enough to accommodate more than 25 countries as big as England. No wonder they loved us so much.
It doesn’t get over here. it is more than twice the size of Germany, Italy, United Kingdom and France combined – Europe’s top forces. While Pakistan loves comparing itself with us, this is one comparison, like many others really, where it doesn’t stand a chance. Before you get upset, here’s why. India, at 3.287 million square kilometers, is big enough to fit more than 4 countries as big as its arch-nemesis. No hate, just facts.
Speaking of facts, one fact that could never be changed is the fact that India is a land of discoveries, inventions, and major breakthroughs.
The buttons on your shirt, they were invented in India. The ruler, the basic equipment without which no modern infrastructure could ever be possible, invented here. Like shampooing your hair? Thank India. And unlike me, if you are a fan of playing with numbers and mathematics in general then you should know that India discovered the number zero, value of pi, trigonometry, calculus and algebra. Diamonds may have never been a girl’s best friend had we not started diamond mining. Cataract surgery and plastic surgery also originated in this incredible land.
See that water on the moon? Yup, discovered by India. Okay I know, I got carried away, we can’t really see it but Indian lunar mission, Chandrayaan-1, detected water on the surface of the moon. Continuing with the space theme, India is also the first and the only country to have entered the orbit of Mars in its very first attempt. How much did the entire operation cost? $0.13 for every kilometer. German efficiency? Nah, Indian genius!
We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made.
Who makes all these wonderful discoveries and innovations? That’s right, the Indian people. While our population numbers might look like a huge negative, it’s not all that bad really. Of the 1.3 billion people that live in the country, more than 650 million people are below the age of 35. This means that India is the country with the largest young population in the entire world. With correct development and education, the country will have the most potent force of working population in the world for the next two decades and more. It is, in fact, on course to become the third biggest economy in the world within the next 10 years. India also has the second largest English-speaking population in the world, only behind the USA, – at 125 million English speakers.
To protect these 1.3 billion people, India also has a defense consisting of 1.3 million soldiers. This number makes it the third biggest armed forces in the world, only behind China and the United States. For comparison, Indian Armed Forces are almost three times the size of Pakistan’s Armed Forces. Compared to Russian Armed Forces? Almost twice their size. As a matter of fact, Indian Armed Forces is bigger than the armed forces of Egypt, Brazil, France, and Germany combined!
And yet, India is perhaps the friendliest nation in the world as it has never invaded or attacked any country in the world, ever.
We might still be behind the likes of America and China but there is no denying that India is definitely one of the biggest countries in the world with a future brighter than the brightest stars.
What fact surprised you the most? Were you aware of just how big India is? Let me know in the comments below.
Be sure to share this with your fellow Indians and help them look at their country in a completely new perspective.
As always, thank you for reading and have a very happy Independence Day!
